Documentary collection, or inkaso, is a payment instrument in international transactions used by business partners who know and fully trust each other. After shipping the contracted goods, the seller (exporter) submits the export documentation (invoice, transport document, etc.) to their bank and instructs it to send the documents to the buyer’s (importer’s) bank. The buyer can access the goods only after fulfilling specific payment conditions (payment or acceptance of a bill of exchange). Documentary collection does not constitute an obligation for the bank.
